McDonald’s employees are dedicated volunteers. Owner/operators participate in local and global RMHC boards. In-restaurant sales of USA Today are all donated to RMHC. McDonald's conducts an annual fundraiser in November called McHappy Day. Since 2002, it has raised $150 million for RMHC and children's charities around the world. Although McDonald’s is our largest corporate donor, no company can solely fund RMHC programs and our projected growth. Our Relationship with the Medical CommunityThe Ronald McDonald House in Columbus, GA is very fortunate to have great working relationships with all of our area hospitals and treatment facilities. Most of these institutions are regional treatment centers for trauma, neonatology, psychiatry, cardiac and orthopedic services. This means that people travel hundreds of miles to receive specialized medical care in these medical facilities. The facilities that we serve include The Medical Center, St. Francis Hospital, The Bradley Center, Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home, Twin Cedars Facility, Hughston Hospital, Doctor's Hospital and Bridgeway Treatment Center. Since so many of the patients treated in these facilities live outside of the Columbus area, there is a great need for cost efficient, temporary lodging for their families. The Ronald McDonald House works with the institutions that provide pediatric services and accommodates the families of their patients 365 days a year. Because there is also a need for lodging for the families of adult patients, the Ronald McDonald House sought the support of two local hotels. The DoubleTree Hotel and Home-Towne Suites have graciously pledged their support. On a space available basis, they provide lodging for the families of adult patients at a significantly reduced cost. These hotels also provide complimentary hotel rooms for the families of pediatric patients when the Ronald McDonald House is full. The partnership with each of these has been a blessing to so many people and we appreciate the DoubleTree's and Home-Towne Suites's willingness to help others during their greatest time of need. The hospitals in Columbus recognize the importance of including familiy members in their patient's care and they value the services that are offered by the Ronald McDonald House, the DoubleTree Hotel and Home-Towne Suites. Because of this, hospitals pledge support to our charity by participating as a sponsor in our annual "Hearts & Hands" Golf Tournament. Their sponsorship is critical to the success of this fundraising event and their generosity allows us to provide a "Home Away From Home" for so many of those they treat.
