Adult Volunteer Information & Opportunities
Volunteers are the core of every Ronald McDonald House because they give from their hearts to help make our House a“home.”
“After spending many months living in a Ronald McDonald House in a different state, there is no way our family can ever repay the organization for providing a ‘Home Away from Home’ for us. Now, we are grateful for the opportunity to volunteer at the House in Columbus and spend time in a way that helps families overcome life’s challenges and impacts their lives in such a positive way.” — K. & S. Freeman, RMH Volunteers.
We truly value their commitment of time, talent and resources and attribute so much of our success to their involvement with our charity.

Our shift times are Monday through Thursday 10:00 – 1:00, 1:00 – 4:00, 4:00 – 6:00, and 6:00 to 9:00. Volunteers assist with answering House phones, administrative tasks and House tours. Additional daily tasks include replenishing guest rooms, checking laundry, tidying up the kitchen and checking supplies.

“Meals from the Heart” Program: Prepare a meal consisting of a main dish, 1-2 side dishes, bread and dessert once a month. Food can be provided by the cook or can be taken from the Ronald McDonald House pantry. Our families who stay with us are primarily looking for “comfort foods”, so sometimes “simple” is best! On average, please plan on feeding 18 – 25 guests. Volunteers are asked to call the House 1-2 days in advance of their scheduled night to determine the number of people to feed and what meals have been previously served.
Hours: 4 hours of credit given per meal prepared
Freezer Friends”: Prepare a main dish casserole that we can freeze to use on a day when we do not have a “Guest Chef” to prepare supper for our families. Please prepare a standard 9″ x 13″ entre’e in a disposible aluminum foil pan. Seal it real well with aluminum foil. Please write on a label or on the lid what the casserole is, the date, and re-heating instructions. These may be brought in any time the front office is open, 7 days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Hours: 2 hours per casserole
